Make Cancer Walk the Plank!

September brings cooler weather, leaves changing, and — for many of us —  preparing to send our children back to school.

But, for too many families across the country and around the world, September marks the fight against pediatric cancer. In 2012, President Barack Obama formally announced September as National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.

According to St Jude’s Research Hospital, there are 43 children under the age of 14 in the U.S. diagnosed with cancer every day and at least 175,000 worldwide each year. The most common form of cancer in children and adolescents is leukemia, a type of blood cancer. Cancer is the leading cause of death by disease past infancy for children in the United States. As if this time isn’t devastating enough, 2020 has been marked by a global pandemic further complicating hospital visits and stays. Visitations help lift the spirits of children and help alleviate some of the stress on the families. The current pandemic we are in only adds to that stress.

But wait: iFrog is a marketing solutions company, so why are we writing about pediatric cancer? Here at iFrog, we believe in being good humans. We believe in bringing awareness to the causes that matter most to us. And in this world that is more concerned than ever about the spread of germs, there are no germs in the digital world!

In a different time, we’d be able to visit our littlest friends or give them a smile. In today’s times, we are instead going to offer a digital smile!

How are we going to share a digital smile? At iFrog, we work hard to make our business better and we work hard to make our communities better. We don’t just believe in causes, we actively serve our communities to make the world better for everyone. This year, our awesome Creative team put together Pirate-themed activities to share love, give hope, and create more smiles. We want to keep it fun, silly, and do what we can to make cancer walk the plank!

Also, St. Jude wants to make it easy to support current patients and their families. Here is a link to send a free online card to St Jude patients. Right now, we can’t provide our presence, but we can give smiles.

Childhood cancer is a heartbreaking subject to think about. It touches the lives of far too many people directly, and many more indirectly. The incredible strength that these families demonstrate leaves us in awe and looking for more ways to help.  Some of the many ways to offer help are:

  • Make a meal
  • Offer to drive to an appointment
  • Babysit other children in the house
  • Purchase them a gift card for gas or food
  • Keep in touch
  • Offer plenty of hugs and give comfort

Let’s do what we can to give smiles, give hope, and make cancer walk the plank!
